Six months after the 20th anniversary conference of itSMF Czech Republic, we will revisit the key ideas behind the theme “The Power of Change” and examine them with the benefit of distance. What remains relevant today? Which ideas have stood the test of daily reality within organizations? And what do the experiences of the past six months tell us about why some changes succeed, while others remain nothing more than good intentions? ITSM in Practice will offer a reflection on the conference, link it to practical experiences in IT management, and provide several insights on how to enhance the ability of organizations and individuals not only to survive change, but to truly embrace and leverage it. After six months, it turns out that the biggest lesson from the conference wasn’t “how to manage change,” but “how to build organizations and teams that are capable of embracing change in the long term.”
#1 – Change is not a project. It is a capability. Organizations no longer operate in an environment of isolated changes, but in a state of constant change. The ability to adapt without compromising performance, trust, or employee morale is becoming a key competitive advantage.
#2 – People are not an obstacle to change. They are its driving force. Technology, processes, and methodologies alone will not bring about change. Success comes when people understand the purpose of the change, have the opportunity to influence it, and gain confidence in its implementation.
#3 – The difference between installation and implementation determines the outcome. Many initiatives fail not because of technical issues, but because of an underestimation of the importance of communication, engagement, training, and internal ownership. Change is only successful when it becomes part of everyday practice.
Martin Vitouš has been working in the IT field for nearly 35 years. During that time, he’s experienced just about everything there is to experience in IT. He’s successfully forgotten most of it, but he still knows what it means to install a server or write some code. In recent years, he has been helping companies and individuals create a management “system”—or rather, a platform—to bring it to life. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s a platform for IT governance, IT service management, project management, product management, risk management, strategic management, portfolio management, or personal productivity management.
